Wartime, USA

2006 | DV color | 20:00

Starbucks, airports, a mall, a casino, street scenes, television seen from bed--these are the vehicles for an examination of Americans in a time of war. The video is comprised of trace indications of a nearly invisible war for which no sacrifice or even acknowledgement is required. The sights, sound and oddities of the banal are juxtaposed with brief glimpses of mainstream media coverage of the War in Iraq and the 2004 U.S. presidential election. What is revealed is a passive and pliable culture of consumption whose participants are only too willing to look the other way, less in complicity than capitulation.
